Overview
To successfully integrate PayPal as a gateway, PayPal must enable referenced transactions. This feature allows transactions to be referenced for future payments and requires manual activation by PayPal once the integration into Payments AI is initiated.
Enabling Referenced Transactions
To enable referenced transactions:
Integrate PayPal: Follow the steps in the following article to connect your PayPal account to the Payments AI platform: Getting Started: Connecting PayPal
Manual Activation: PayPal needs to manually turn on this feature for all merchants who integrate the gateway. We have partnered with PayPal to facilitate this process. When you are first connected, PayPal will automatically receive the request for manual activation of your reference transactions inside their platform.
Activation Timeline: After the gateway integration is completed and manual activation is requested, please allow PayPal time to enable this feature. Typically, this process is completed within two business days. However, depending on processing speed, it may take up to seven business days.

Troubleshooting
Extended Waiting Period: If the gateway remains in a waiting state beyond the expected timeframe, please contact us. Our team can reach out to our PayPal contacts to investigate and expedite the process.
